I read a story yesterday in my local paper about a man who should really feel bitter about the hand life has dealt him, but doesn’t ans has been nominated for person of the year by one of our banks.

He was diagnosed with cancer when he was 22, and with treatment was able to beat it. He got on with his life and qualified as a chemist running his own pharmacy. Unfortunately, some years after he developed a type of meningitis, which inveigled amputating all four of his limbs to save his life – but after getting through that – he still continued with life – even resuming his career in his pharmacy business.

Unfortunately, some years after that he was hit with a massive stroke – and he lost his business. Anyone would feel bitter – but he now mentors other amputees – without a trace of hard feelings – a remarkable man.

Along the way, despite all the hardship he has married and had three children.
